Damper Control
With increasing frequency we find ourselves on the p hone usually with an end user who is finding that their damper control package is oscillating. Naturally, the positioner is the first item to point to as the cause of the oscillation. While the positioner may be a “part” of the problem, it is very seldom all of the problem. In many cases we have learned (through much education from those who provide damper control) that a big cause of the instability is the actuator and the fact that the actuator is undersized to handle the dynamic torques that are encountered when the dampers are put in service. We sell to several distributors who specialize in damper control applications. We very seldom hear from those who size actuators using 2xs and preferably 3xs the calculated torque. For those interested, we have a local distributor who has written a good technical paper on damper control and actuator sizing-contact us and we will be happy to share this information. Oscillation is a “package” issue; a positioner cannot oscillate by itself, but the damper package can; oscillation is a package that is unstable. Control “stability” is the key to good damper control….the correct positioner and the properly sized actuator will lead to this stability.

Retrofit Flyer
We have also included the retrofit flyer that many of you have already requested. We want to continue to emphasize this market. As many control valve companies move away from P/P and E/P positioners, we feel the V100 or V200 offer a viable alternative, when the customer does not want to go to a digital unit. Of course our own D400 and flexible mounting kits offer a competitive alternative…WHEN, digital is needed. We feel we (along with our distributor/oem partners) are well positioned to take advantage of this very large installed base of product.

VAC Training
With the move into our new facility we have set our first training date as September 23-24. It will be a 1-1⁄2 day class in our new Chelsea Service Center. The agenda will be 40% classroom time and 60% shop/hands on time. We will discuss the very basics as well as some more technical issues, while covering all three product groups-V100-200 and D400. VAC will pay for 2 nights hotel and meals while you attend the session. To keep the learning effective we want to try to have groups around six people, so if you are interested get your reservation in early. We feel there will be enough mixture of information presented that we can better educate all levels-inside sales, outside sales, and technicians. If these are well received, we will put out a full schedule for 2009 and probably divide the classes into technical/shop people and a separate school for inside/outside sales people.
